We’re now in Week 7 of the college football season. We have a pretty good idea of the teams that will make the playoffs but there are some teams that are on the outside looking in. I’m going to take a look at the biggest matchups in the South.

Georgia Tech at #11 Miami: The Hurricanes are coming off of their first win over Florida State in 7 years. This is a team that has a chance to finish in the top four. Miami is favored in every game for the rest of the season. If they win out they’ll face Clemson in the ACC Championship Game and the winner will make the playoffs.

One thing I noticed from the FSU game is the Canes are undisciplined on defense. They made a game against a true freshman quarterback much closer than it should have been.

Not being disciplined against Tech’s option attack means they will give up big plays. I think this will be a very high scoring game but Miami should come out on top.

#10 Auburn at LSU: Auburn has only lost one game this year to #2 Clemson. They can also finish in the top four if they win their remaining games, which include #4 Georgia and the season finale against rival Alabama.

They should have a rematch with UGA in the SEC Championship. QB Jarrett Stidham has started to play well and he looks like he understands the offense better.

LSU has not looked like the team we’ve become accustomed to seeing over the past decade.

These Tigers got blown out by Miss State and lost their homecoming game to Troy. They are coming off of a win at Florida, which should boost their confidence.

LSU is playing for their pride and it’s a home game. This game will be tough but Auburn will come out on top.

Arkansas at #1 Alabama: Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema has not beaten Alabama in his previous four attempts. They have had success moving the ball against the Crimson Tide though losing 49-30 in 2016. You can see from that score they also can’t stop Bama.

I think this game could be dangerous because Bielema needs a signature win. It’s possible Alabama may overlook their opponent which will lead to the biggest upset of the season.

Realistically I don’t see that happening because they have so much talent. After beating Texas A&M over the weekend we learned that Alabama can still win when they don’t play their best. Bama will win by double digits.

#6 TCU at Kansas State: TCU is one of the biggest surprises of the season. The Horned Frogs finished 6-7 last season. Quarterback Kenny Hill aka Kenny Thrill is playing much better in his second year at TCU.

You may remember him when he played at Texas A&M and was the heir apparent to Johnny Manziel. TCU plays the best defense in the Big 12 so they’re the most complete team in the conference.

K State did lose to Vanderbilt so they aren’t a great team but they are tough at home. TCU head coach Gary Patterson seems like he is already making excuses about this game. He said playing in Manhattan, KS is difficult and the game is at 11:00 am.

That tells me he doesn’t expect his team to play well. This will be a very close game but the Frogs will prevail.
