The Brunswick High Pirates arrived at Glynn County Stadium Friday night with high hopes on Homecoming and waiting on them at the 50 for the coin flip were the undefeated Bradwell Tigers.

Bradwell came in to the contest with a 6-0 record, feeling pretty good about themselves.

In fact, the Tigers were confident they were going come in and ruin the Pirates season much like they did in 2016 with a 21-18 win over BHS. That loss kept the Pirates out of the playoffs.

All of that ended 9 seconds into the contest with a 65 yard TD strike from Jamarius Stevens to DJ Whitfield on the first play of the contest.

The Pirates raced out to a 36-7 lead at the half and never looked back and flattened the confident Tigers 64-21 on a beautiful Homecoming night where Vanessa Ramirez was crowned Homecoming Queen.

Pirate Report Card:

Offense: A+. The Air Raid offense was clicking on all cylinders and rolled up 617 yards of total offense.

Jamarius Stevens had 444 yards passing and made the Tiger pass defense look like Swiss cheese all night long.

Game plan was awesome. Bradwell manned up the Pirate receivers and paid for it all night long giving up big play after big play. Stevens has over 1500 yards passing in 5 games.

The offensive line mauled the Tigers up front. Hinson, Hall, Cano, Kirkland, and McClendon ate up the Tiger defense like a football team attacks an all you can eat buffet. Jaylen Trimmings and Shaq Robinson ran the ball well. The WR group feasted on the Tiger secondary with Alonzo Brown, DJ Whitfield, Jaylen Jackson, and Malik Alston all having huge games.

Best effort of the year so far by offense as region play started with the Tigers last night.

Defense: B-. BHS won by 43 points, but the defense came out flat in the second half and gave up a long TD pass and a long run.

First half was great as the Pirates bottled up the Tiger run game that came into the contest averaging 300 yards a game. The unit gave up some yards in third quarter but woke up and slammed the door on Bradwell after the Tigers cut the lead to 36-21 in the 3rd.

Cincinnati commit Jaylen Jackson played great at corner. Kam Futch played good at LB and Rudy Nixon played well at DL.

Run defense has to get better as BHS gets into the region slate.

Special Teams: A. BHS kicked off 9 times in the contest and Bradwell did not return a kick past the 35 yard line. All XP’s attempted were made and BHS converted a 2-point conversion. This unit is solid.

Coaching: A. Sean Pender went after Bradwell early and often and kept the pressure on the Tigers and they folded like a cheap dollar store tent. I like the new culture at BHS.

Overall: A. BHS hung 64 points on an undefeated and confident Bradwell team, who thought they were going to come in here and run the ball down the Pirates throat.

The Tiger coaching staff was very confident in their words and mannerisms prior to kickoff but that changed very quickly.

Good solid win for BHS that will send notice to those in the area.

Up Next: Glynn Academy. It is City Championship Week. Nothing else needs to be said.
