Brunswick Down Wayne

On a great night for football between the bricks at Glynn County Stadium the Brunswick High Pirates pulled away from the Wayne County Yellow Jackets in second half and won 33-17.
The win makes the Pirates 2-1 on the season.
I like how the passing offense is starting to evolve. DJ Whitfield had his best night ever as a Pirate with three catches for 126 yards and 2 TD’s, and was the player of the game.
Pirate Report Card:
Offense: B-. This group in my opinion slept walked through the first half.
At half woke up and dominated the second half.
Two weeks running the Pirates have gotten off to slow starts and picked it up in second half.
Jamarius Stevens is getting better by the week. Brandon McMaster returned and had 100 yards and 2 TD’s. The unit rolled up 414 yards of offense. A fumble deep in their own territory gave Wayne 3 points. Waiting for the complete game out of this unit.
Defense: A-. This unit played well again. One legit TD drive given up and one fluke TD pass on a 20-yard deflection.
Brunswick held Wayne to a FG after being put in bad position on a turnover. The Pirates gave up only 196 total yards and 58 came on the crazy deflection play. This unit is solid. Sherrod Frazier looks like a Division 1 big time football prospect. I am very pleased with this group.
Special Teams: C-. Brunswick two missed XP’s hurt and kickoff distance must improve before the Pirates get into the meat of the schedule. I am starting to get a little concerned here.
Coaching: A. The team was in position all night to make plays. A trick play TD pass got Brunswick off to a fast start on its first play from scrimmage. I liked the play calling last night.
Overall: B. It was a good solid win over a rival we have played 42 times. Brunswick now leads series with Wayne 23-18-1.
