Frederica Academy saw their season end last year in the second round of the playoffs against Deerfield Windsor. The Knights have improved the last two seasons in the win column.

Two years ago they went 7-4 and last year that went 9-2. I don’t see the trend stopping this year.

Head coach Brandon Derrick’s Knights are a little more dialed in this year. They could make a lot of noise in the next few months.

This year’s schedule will push the Knights like they have never been pushed before. Let’s take a look at this year’s schedule.

The Knights will open their season on August 11th in Montgomery, Alabama against Parklane Academy from Mississippi. This will be an interesting matchup for Frederica. They will face the biggest offensive line they will see the entire season out of the gate.

On August 18th the Knights escape the long haul to Atlanta this year and get to play Holy Spirit Prep at home. Last year the Knights handled Holy Spirit easily in Atlanta. The final score of that game was 58-0.

On August 25th the Knights travel to Savannah to take on Bethesda Academy. Frederica and Bethesda have split the wins the last two years with Bethesda winning 27-20 and Frederica winning 29-0 last year.

September 1st , Frederica will travel unchartered waters and face their first GHSA football school in school history. The Knights will trek to Atlanta to take on GHSA Private powerhouse Wesleyan School. Wesleyan was 2 games away from playing in the championship game last year. This will definitely be a test for the Knights.

September 8th , the Knights will host Valwood at home. Frederica has traveled to Hahira the last two years, so it will be good to get the Valiants at home. Frederica beat Valwood last year 24-13. It is always a battle when Coach Derrick and Coach Henderson face off and this year will be no different.

On September 15th the Knights will travel to play an athletic Memorial Day football team. This team is always full of athletes so this game will be a fun one to watch. Last year Frederica was able to beat Matadors 23-3.

September 22nd starts region play for the Knights. They get Trinity at home this year. The Knights traveled to Dublin last year and won 42-20.

September 29th will be another good one in Bellville, as the Knights travel to take on Pinewood. This winner of this game has won the region championship the last two years. Frederica beat Pinewood 30-17 last year. This year will be another battle.

On October 6th  the Knights get their rivals, Bulloch Academy, at home. The Knights will go into this game still feeling the disappointment of last year’s loss.

Last year, the Knights had to travel to Statesboro on a Wednesday to play the Gators. This game was moved because of the Hurricane Matthew bearing down on St. Simons Island.

The Knights were defeated 7-6. The Knights will look for revenge on St. Simons.

October 13th will be the last region game of the season against Edmund Burke. The Knights beat Edmund Burke 34-7 last year. The Knights will travel to Edmund Burke this year.

Calpreps has Frederica going 9-1 with their only loss coming to a GHSA school. The Knights hope to make a deeper run in the playoffs this year by ending up in Macon playing for a championship in November.

The 2017 season could be an interesting one for Frederica. A healthy Knights football team can make a deep run into the playoffs. The Haunted Jungle will be rocking on St. Simons this year.
