The Spring Scrimmage has come and gone for the Glynn Academy Red Terrors and the Brunswick High Pirates.

The two squads took advantage of a rule passed by the GHSA allowing a spring scrimmage to be played against another school if so desired.

The cross-town rivals took advantage and played one half of varsity football against one another to a pretty large crowd for a spring scrimmage.

Brunswick High, of course, was showing off new coach Sean Pender and what his high flying offense would look like. It did not disappoint. The Pirates out 21 points on the board via three passing TD’s from Jamarious Stevens.

Glynn Academy seemed to approach the scrimmage in a more ‘business like’ point of view. Coach Hidalgo called very basic plays. The Red Terrors did try two 2-point conversions, which both failed. The Terrors attempted those 2-point conversions due to the fact they did not have a kicker dressed out for spring as soccer ran long into the spring. Glynn’s kickers also play soccer.

The Red Terrors also unveiled what the offense would look like with Randon Jernigan under center as DeeJay Dallas will be playing on Saturdays in Miami.

After two quarters of play the Pirates defeated the Terrors 21-12.

I believe both squads did what they needed to do. Glynn Academy just needed to see some live competition and get hit by guys who did not wear the silver and red jerseys.

Meanwhile, the Pirates needed to show a little bit more to get the fan base excited about the program once again. It is no secret the last two years in the Pirate Ship have been less than desirable.

Brunswick really needed to look good in that and coach Sean Pender made sure that happened and also got the win which will go a long way with the Pirate faithful.

The next time these teams will see each other will be on October 13 and a region title will likely be on the line. Look for both of these teams to make deep playoff runs come November.
