Football season is once again upon us and we have seen an explosion of talent grace our area high school football teams in the past few years.

The truth is the talent just didn’t one day show up. It has been here all along, the college coaches are just now beginning to look at the Golden Isles and southeast Georgia as a recruiting hotbed.

Once again, Glynn Academy, Brunswick High and Frederica Academy will be loaded with talent.

Leading the way for the Terrors will be QB Randon Jernigan. Jernigan is being pursued heavily by a ton of colleges seeking his services at the next level. Glynn’s QB will step in for DeeJay Dallas under center.

It is worth mentioning that Dallas and Jernigan are two very different QB’s. While Dallas was blessed with size and the ability to make people miss in the open field, Jernigan is going to be more accurate with the football and is the fastest athlete I have ever seen, yes, ever. He will flat outrun defenders if they care to engage him in a foot race.

Sharrod Frazier is going to be a stallworth on the Brunswick High defense at linebacker. Last season Frazier exploded on the scene as a junior. While the Pirates struggled on offense last season, they did not struggle on the defensive side of the ball and a large reason was Sharrod Frazier.

Frazier has the size to take on offensive linemen trying to block him and also has the speed to cover any receiver on the outside. He was often the best player on the field in almost every game the Pirates played in last season.

Frazier, who already has a ton offers in his own right to play at the next level, will have a ton more offers as colleges are bound to discover his rare mix of size and speed.

Jaylin Simpson is ‘Mr. Do Everything’ for Frederica Academy. Simpson is blessed with blazing 4.4 speed and a 6’4 frame. The Knights will ask Simpson to play QB this season even though that was not the original plan. Frederica’s starter Gaven Williams went down with a shoulder injury and Simpson will be under center.

You will see Simpson return kicks, play QB and DB on defense. Every major football school under the sun is drooling over Simpson. In my opinion, you will probably see him playing at Ohio State when all is said and done.

These are just three players in the deep talent pool of Glynn County. It is going to be a fun season if you are a high school football fan in the Golden Isles and make sure to keep an eye on Randon Jernigan, Sharrod Frazier and Jaylin Simpson. All three have the ‘wow’ factor, are special athletes on the football field and will play on Saturdays next year.
