Glynn Dismantles Camden

I never thought I would see the day when a visiting team would head to Chris Gilman Stadium in Kingsland, the home of the Camden County Wildcats, and bring more fans than there were in the home stands.

That was the case Friday night when Glynn Academy took the trip and the sea of red filled the visitors section, while on the home side you could not help but notice all the empty seats.

Camden fans have not had a lot to cheer about to this point in the season. Two losses to teams out of Florida that did not even have 60 kids on the roster and then the ultimate wake-up call came in the form of the Glynn Academy Red Terrors.

The Wildcats had beaten Glynn Academy 28 straight times and had never started a season 0-3. However, on the first series of the game the Terrors’ Randon Jernigan took a pitch from quarterback Deejay Dallas, turned it up-field for a 60+ yard touchdown run and the rout was on.

When the first quarter ended the Red Terrors were already up 28-0 and the game had not been that close.

Early in the game I kept waiting for Camden to get their act together, make a play that would get them back into the game or make an adjustment somewhere that would at least keep them from getting blown out on their home field.

Once Glynn scored again in the 2nd quarter and Camden turned the ball over to a swarming Red Terror defense I realized there were no adjustments to be made…Glynn Academy was simply that much better than Camden. It did not matter what Camden would try as the Terrors smothered everything they threw at them.

When the first half mercifully ended it was 42-0. Glynn had come into Chris Gilman Stadium and was woodshedding the vaunted Camden County Wildcats.

The third quarter opened and one had to wonder if Camden wouldn’t make it a better game in the second half, maybe put up some points to make it look closer than it was. However, Camden got the ball first in the second half and did nothing with it.

The Terrors took the opportunity to crush any attempt at a miracle comeback by methodically picking the Wildcats’ defense apart and with four minutes to go in the third it was 49-0, Glynn. Most of the starters for the Red Terrors were not even in the game at that point.

The 3rd quarter ended and the 4th quarter was on a running clock, which is essentially the mercy rule in high school football. That’s right the Red Terrors were ‘mercy ruling’ Camden on their own astro-turfed field.

When the smoke cleared and the clock read 0:00 the final was 56-7 Glynn Academy.

The Terrors are now 3-1 on the year and the Wildcats drop to 0-3. Looking at what Camden has and how tough their schedule is there is a real possibility they will only win two games on the year and go 2-8.
