Recruiting The 912
TheSouthernSportsEdition.com news services
Even when it is not football season, it is still football season.
In addition to spring camps, summer workouts, and fall camps leading up to the regular season for colleges all over the country, recruiting is a vital aspect of the offseason as well.
Recruiting is the lifeblood for any good college football program, and the summer is often when recruits will make their decisions public, or the ground work is laid by the coaching staffs to the recruits, their families, and advisors, in order to help the young men decide which school feels like “home.”
Time For Justise

There are a lot of great things to love about the NBA free agency period, such as seeing which players end up where and for how much.
This year has been extremely interesting in that regard. One of the things that I always look forward is the aftermath once all the dust has settled. For all those teams that make a big splash and get the guys they’re looking for there are those teams that miss out on their targets and are left with a drastically different team than the previous year.
If Miami’s fortunes so far are any indication what the rest of the summer will hold, they need Justise Winslow to step up and quick.

After Dwight Howard inked a three-year, $71 million deal with the Atlanta Hawks Friday; good for a yearly salary of a cool $23.7 million per year, NBA and Hawks fans made their cries of anguish immediately known.
As tempting as it may be to overreact, fans must keep things in perspective.
Spurrier to SEC Network?
TheSouthernSportsEdition.com news services
I read recently that retired coach Steve Spurrier is in discussions to become an analyst with the SEC Network. I don’t know about you but having the ball coach breaking down SEC football games will be a must for this writer come football season.
Can you see the ball coach at Auburn on a game day talking about all of the new books in the AU library?
Spurrier in Knoxville covering the Vols reminding Vol-nation that you can’t spell Citrus Bowl without UT.
Can you imagine Spurrier doing a where are they now segment with Ray Goff? Hey coach, I know I put you out to pasture but you rebounded nicely in the chicken finger industry.
Just Throw Me the Ball

With the Georgia Bulldogs season getting close, there will be a lot of words written and spoken about who will be under center and throwing the ball at quarterback for first year head coach Kirby Smart.
There may not be as much talk about who will be on the receiving end of the passes from the eventual starting quarterback, be it Jacob Eason, Brice Ramsey, or Greyson Lambert.
Low Flying Draft

The NBA Draft is now over. Some teams made drastic moves to get better while others might have gotten worse. I’m going to take a look at the Atlanta Hawks offseason moves and evaluate their draft picks.
His Finest Hour

If June 24, 2010 is the greatest day in Kentucky basketball history, according to John Calipari at least, when 5 of his players were taken in the first round of the NBA Draft then June 23, 2016 must have felt more like getting off work Friday afternoon only to realize you have to work the weekend.
It was the perfect ending to what has been an interesting few months for the Wildcats coach.
The Trading Game

We’re deep into the second year of the Braves somewhat controversial rebuild, and in Atlanta, things are going fairly poorly.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, as they product on the field is by turns young, inexperienced and/or mediocre.
That’s been written about plenty, we won’t go into that with much depth right now.
Contrarily, the product on the field in the minor leagues for the Braves system is full of hope and talent. That’s also been well documented.
For now, I want to go back to the big tent poles of this rebuild: the trades that made Braves fans cry foul. We’ll analyze the returns a little, sure, but what I really want to do is focus on the players we traded away.
Jimbo Top 5 Coach?
TheSouthernSportsEdition.com news services
College football is just a little over 2 months away from taking over the sports landscape in the South during the fall and into the first couple of weeks of January.
One coach that I feel doesn’t get enough credit for the job he is doing is Jimbo Fisher at Florida State.

The college football season is now within sight, just over two months to go, and it will be time to tee it up all over our great country.
Every young man who aspires to play football one day dreams of hoisting the Heisman trophy and joining such an elite club associated with being the best player in college football.
As we approach the 2016 season, there are numerous candidates who could very well be the next name added to the list of Heisman winners.
